Feng Shui offers us the tools to be able to create a sacred space for birth anywhere, no matter how or where a woman chooses to give birth. It allows us to be in harmony with the forces of nature and draw support from the environment around us.
SO WHAT IS FENG SHUI?
Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art dating back at least 4,000 years. It works on arranging our lives in accordance with the forces of the universe and is rooted in an extraordinary sensitivity to nature.
The words Feng Shui literally mean Wind and Water.
By understanding how natural energy flows around us and our environment, we can arrange our home, furniture, birthing space and ourselves to find our most favourable location, position and direction that will support us best at this time of great transition.
To best utilise the natural energies the ancient Chinese devised a Bagua which separates each place into 8 directional sectors, ie north, north-east, east, etc., in the case of ‘Flying Stars or Compass School Feng Shui’. Each sector has assigned to it different life situations, ie marriage, career, wealth, family / health, etc and also body parts ie head, arm, stomach etc. Form school uses the bagua orientated to the door of the room or building, rather than compass directions.
Each sector also has an element attached. The five elements embraced by Feng Shui are Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire.
Many other factors are also taken into consideration, including aspects of Astrology and Numerology,
The art of Feng Shui is to tie all of the relevant factors into a meaningful picture to the benefit of the individual...in this case...the birthing woman, her unborn baby and her support person/team. Feng Shui principles can be applied to any space or location to ensure one feels supported by the use of such things as:
· Space Clearing techniques
· Blocks releasing that may be holding up the birth process
· Maintaining a position of power
· Facing personally empowering directions
· Elemental cures
· Activating the relevant sectors/life situations
· Enhancing the Chi flow in the birthing space
· Activating one’s personal Chi
· Setting intentions for birth
· Activating ‘LOVE CHI’ to help those birthing hormones flow
· Connecting more deeply with the unborn baby
· Calling on support from the natural environment & caregivers
‘Feng Shui cures’ can be used to enhance the flow of positive Chi throughout the birthing space or to overcome harmful Chi flowing from outside sources.
Feng Shui helps us to harness the energies around us and transform them into something incredible, transforming and life affirming!
Feng Shui techniques can be used to create the most empowering and memorable birth experience ever. Why not tap into that which nature has provided for us to enhance this most beautiful time of your life? If you are a birth professional, you owe it to your clients to support them as best you can, so that they feel nurtured, supported and truly honoured during their birth journey.
